Head Coach Alen Marcina
(On the draw…)
“For me, I look maybe a little bit bigger picture. Three games, eight days, we collected seven points. I’m proud of the guys. Today they fought, they left everything they had out on the field. Same mentality, you could see there was definitely some heavy legs but we didn’t use that as an excuse. You know there was a comment made to me at the 79th minute when unfortunately we went down a man, and the guys were like ‘no, we want to get the win let’s keep pressing.’ That’s great to hear, from these warriors. With that sort of mentality, we wanted to go out with a win. Even being a man down, and I’m proud of them.”
(On the challenge Monterey Bay presented…)
“Every team wants to take down the defending champions. We know that every opponent playing against us, home or away, we’re going to get their best. And that level of pressure is a privilege, we earned … that pressure on us. Again, the guys’ mentality was fantastic. They went after … Monterey Bay.”
Goalkeeper Jordan Farr
(On the draw…)
“I thought it was a solid defensive performance, I think we’ve been getting better defensively each game as the year goes on. To us, we love scoring but as a defensive unit we really appreciate when everyone’s doing the work defensively. And I thought today was a big testament to how far we’ve come, especially being a man down and also being super aggressive still. I thought actually we stepped up our level of play even as the red card came in, I thought we were playing well before that. … Three games in eight days, you gotta kind of take the positives here. So for us it’s very important that we do so, because at the end of the day it’s not easy, with travel as well. Proud of the boys, thought it was a good result ultimately, overall.”
(On continuing to press even after going down a man…)
“It’s about digging deeper. Yeah it’s just about finding it within yourself to overcome adversity, and I think this team thrives off that. I think when certain things in the game happen that maybe go against us, we’re trying to train our minds to be like ‘that’s when we step it up.’ Where some team maybe crumble, some teams maybe start changing for the negative, we want to be a team that reacts positively to every situation so for us, coming out strong right out of that break when the red card happened was vital, regardless whether we agree or disagree with the decision. It’s about getting over it as quickly as possible and pushing. Because ultimately we need to give, the amount of people that come and watch us play, that support us, we need to give them everything we have every minute of the game. So when those things happen it’s no excuse, ever. I just can’t be more proud of the boys for reacting as well as they did.”
Forward Tani Oluwaseyi
(On the draw…)
“I think it was a tough game, coming in and we’ve played three games in eight days, eventually all that catches up with the legs. Guys worked hard, regardless of everything. I think everybody left whatever they had left in the tank out there, and we fought and sometimes the game of soccer just doesn’t go our way. And that’s the case tonight.”
