Colorado Springs, CO (August 29, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, are thrilled to announce the signing of the Premier Development League's #9 prospect Tobenna Uzo, pending league and USSF approval.
Uzo joins the Switchbacks having most recently spent time as a forward with the Myrtle Beach Mutiny of the PDL where he was recently named to the Premier Development League's Top Prospects coming in at #9 on a list of over 50 top prospects. Uzo trained with the Switchbacks early in the season before joining Myrtle Beach. Uzo has played 1,032 minutes in 14 games, tallying 13 goals and adding three assists.
Prior to joining Myrtle Beach, Uzo attended Coastal Carolina his senior year where he played in 18 of Coastal's 20 matches during the 2015 season, leading to the Chanticleers to an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He was named to the All-Big South First Team and was twice named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
"He [Uzo] is a big target player that can score with his head as well as his feet, so it is something different that we have not had at that position," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "I expect him to come in and help us the rest of the season and help get us into the playoffs."
"First of all I want to thank my Lord and savior Jesus because this is one of my biggest accomplishments in life; it truly is a blessing," said Uzo on signing for the Switchbacks. "I want to also thank my family, friends, and coaches for constantly telling me to believe that I can be a professional soccer player. I honestly wouldn't want to play with any other group of guys. They all have treated me like family and I hope to do whatever it takes to help this team win games."
The Switchbacks return to action this Saturday against Sacramento Republic at Papa Murphy's Park. The Switchbacks will return home Saturday, September 9th against Phoenix Rising FC with the first 500 fans in attendance receiving the fifth and final piece to the poster series puzzle courtesy of Accelerated Wealth. Tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
