Los Angeles, CA (June 10, 2017) – The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC defeated LA Galaxy II for the first time on the road in the Switchbacks' history behind Kevaughn Frater's brace.
Coming off a dramatic win last Saturday against Energy FC, the Switchbacks were looking to beat LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center for the first time in club history. The two sides battled it out in the first half with LA putting the pressure on the Switchbacks' backline, but Moise Pouaty would come up with a handful of saves to keep it scoreless at the break.
The second half would get off to a much better start for the Switchbacks as they started to have better chances in the attacking third. Kevaughn Frater would give the Switchbacks the lead in the 65th minute shortly after a Suggs corner saw the ball cleared out of the box. LA Galaxy would tie it up in the 80th minute as a distance shot beat Pouaty to his right. The Switchbacks would turn up the pressure and Frater would grab his second of the match just before stoppage time to take a 2-1 lead. The Switchbacks would hold on to the lead and would walk away with all three points and their first ever win at the StubHub Center.
"It was about self-actualization and achieving my maximum potential," said Kevaughn Frater following his two-goal night.
"It was a good win for us in LA for the first time in club history," said Head Coach Steve Trittschuh. "I really like the fight this team has developed as the season goes on and the 'never say die' attitude. We just need to keep working on our game and be better."
The Switchbacks will get a much deserved week off next weekend before returning to Weidner Field on June 24th against San Antonio FC. Fans attendance will be treated to a post-match fireworks show! Kickoff is at 7:00 PM, tickets start at just $12 and are available here.
