Tormenta FC 2 to Face The Villages SC in Open Cup

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC 2, one of the top pre-professional teams across North America, will face off against a familiar foe in the First Round of the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, as TFC 2 will meet fellow USL League Two side The Villages SC at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 25, from the The Villages Soccer Complex in Summerfield, Florida.

Tormenta FC 2 enjoyed its best year of play in 2019, defeating professional side Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in the U.S. Open Cup before winning the Deep South Division and Southern Conference titles in league play. The team, which will likely feature numerous talented Tormenta FC Academy players and high-level collegiate stars, will aim to build on its recent success entering 2020.

The 19 First Round winners will earn the opportunity to face professional clubs in the Second Round, which is scheduled for April 7-9. Twenty-five USL Championship (Division II), 6 USL League One (Division III) and 8 National Independent Soccer Association (Division III) professional teams await the First Round winners in the only major American team sports competition in which amateurs can earn the chance at meaningful games against professional clubs and players.

The Second Round pairings and possible pairings will be announced on January 29.

Eleven lower-seeded U.S.-based Division I Major League Soccer clubs will enter in the Third Round, which will be played April 21-23, while the remaining 12 MLS sides will take the field in their first Open Cup action in the Round of 32, which takes place May 19-20.

Tormenta FC Signs Forward Devyn Jambga

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has signed former FC Tucson forward Devyn Jambga to its 2020 USL League One roster, pending league and federation approval.

Jambga was Tucson’s second-leading goalscorer in 2019, notching five goals and one assist in 25 appearances. The forward earned two USL League One Player of the Week honors after scoring braces against both Chattanooga Red Wolves SC and Greenville Triumph SC.

Tormenta FC Reveals 2020 Preseason Schedule

STATESBORO, Ga. – Tormenta FC has announced its preseason schedule ahead of the 2020 USL League One season, featuring matches against the USL Championship’s Charleston Battery, Charlotte Independence and Tampa Bay Rowdies. The club will also face Lander University and Young Harris College in Statesboro, Georgia.

"We have worked hard to put together a very challenging preseason for our players,” Head Coach John Miglarese said. “We think the quality opponents we have lined up will allow us to learn about the personnel we have and where we need to improve. I am really looking forward to these matches."

Tormenta FC kicks off its preseason on the road against Charlotte Independence on Feb. 12, followed by the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Feb. 23. The club will then host the Charleston Battery on Feb. 28 at Erk Russell Park. On March 14, Tormenta FC plays Lander University at the Clubhouse Fields and finishes its preseason lineup on March 21 against Young Harris College, one week shy of the club’s home opener.

Williams played 22 games for Ignite FC in 2019, totaling 26 clearances, 40 tackles and 106 duels won, while also scoring a goal.

"Rhys is a player with experience and versatility who I expect to play an important role for us this season,” Head Coach John Miglarese said. “His ability to play wing-back and winger will allow us to deploy him in several different formations effectively. He comes highly recommended by Nate Miller for his character and ability to attack out of the back effectively. I am excited to welcome him to our club."

Tormenta Made: Three Academy Players Sign With Pro Team

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC continues to create a proven path to the professional ranks for its youth players. Tormenta FC Academy players and Savannah natives Tristan DeLoach, Grant Hampton and Stephen O’Hearn have signed academy contracts with the club’s 2020 USL League One team, pending league and federation approval.

“Being able to see these players reach their dreams and start to reach their goals is tremendous for them, the youth academy and the club,” Director of Youth Soccer Brad Nein said. “The hard work the boys have put in at the Academy over the years has led them to this opportunity to continue developing in a professional training environment. The pathway to professional soccer in South Georgia and the Low Country of South Carolina runs through Tormenta FC.”

In 2019, DeLoach made history as the first Tormenta FC youth player to sign professionally with the club’s League One team, making one appearance for the team in the regular season. The 17-year-old midfielder is a junior at Benedictine Military School in Savannah. His speed and technical skills on the ball, along with his hard-working mindset are a few traits that attracted the League One coaches.

Hampton attends Islands High School and has spent ten years playing and developing his skills with the Tormenta FC Academy. Last season, the 16-year-old midfielder made four appearances for Tormenta FC 2, helping the team win the Deep South Division and Southern Conference titles. Hampton’s work ethic, passing and finishing skills make him an attacking threat in the final third of the field.

O’Hearn is a 16-year-old goalkeeper who attends Savannah Arts Academy. The goalkeeper has been with the Tormenta FC Academy for ten years and has exceptional technical ability. O’Hearn’s footwork and confidence on the ball gives his teammates the ability to use him as an option during the flow of the game.

Tormenta FC Doubles Down in 2020 U.S. Open Cup

U.S. Soccer has confirmed that a record-breaking 100 teams will compete in the 2020 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Tormenta FC and Tormenta FC 2 will both compete in the tournament with the club’s League Two side entering in Round One and its League One side entering in Round Two.

This year is Tormenta FC’s second professional Open Cup appearance and Tormenta 2’s third year in the tournament. In 2019, Tormenta’s League One side lost 1-0 to rivals Greenville Triumph in Round One. Tormenta 2 impressed with a 3-0 upset win against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC in Round One before being knocked out by former USL Championship club Nashville SC in the second round.

U.S. Soccer will announce the First and Second Round matchups in late January with the First Round schedule being released on Jan. 22. The Second Round pairings and possible pairings will follow one week later on Jan. 29.

Notably, the USL League One Playoffs will expand from four to six teams in 2020, with the top two seeds receiving first-round byes. Tormenta FC Signs Richmond Kickers’ Daniel Jackson

Tormenta FC has signed forward Daniel Jackson for the 2020 season, pending league and federation approval. Jackson played for the Richmond Kickers in 2019 where he scored four goals and one assist in 22 games played.

“Daniel is another strong addition to our forward line,” Tormenta FC Head Coach John Miglarese said. “His experience, ability to stretch defenses and his desire to be part of our project made it an easy choice when we had the opportunity to sign him. I expect him to add a feature that was lacking in our attack last season.”

Jackson began his extensive professional career in 2014 with North Carolina FC. The forward then spent more time in the USL Championship, signing with Charlotte Independence, Oklahoma City Energy and Saint Louis FC in the coming years. In 2018, Jackson started the year with Devonport City in the National Premier Leagues Tasmania side before signing with Bollklubben-46 in Finland where he scored four goals and one assist in eight matches.

“Hearing John speak about his philosophical approach to the game, along with the core group of players returning made it an easy choice to join Tormenta FC,” Jackson said. “I’m looking forward to the 2020 season and giving all I can for the club and town!”
