Tormenta FC Academy welcomes Ziaullah and Fidaullah to recreation program

Two of our newest Academy players, Ziaullah and Fidaullah, came to the United States from Afghanistan two years ago with the rest of their family as refugees. Ziaullah and Fidaullah’s family eventually moved to Savannah after having lived on a United States military base in Wisconsin. The boys showed a large interest in soccer and the search began to find a place for the boys to play. Once hearing about the boys, we offered to let them join the recreation practices at The Landings field and they have been improving every day.

Ziaullah, the oldest at nine years old, is currently in the fourth grade. He works hard to help support his family’s needs. He often helps his parents to translate everything from everyday conversations to banking and medical information, even though he is still learning to speak English himself. Soccer is his favorite sport, and he loves watching Cristiano Ronaldo. He improves his skills by he constantly watches videos to teach himself.

Ziaullah’s younger brother, Fidaullah, recently turned six years old and is attending kindergarten. He is a caring boy who loves to go outside and be active while making jokes with his friends. He learns more English everyday and he is also very passionate about soccer. Fidaullah’s favorite soccer player to watch is Lionel Messi.

Tormenta Academy Graduates, Keira Dawley, Camryn Hampton, and Trinity Grace Maxwell, Sign to Play College Soccer

Keira Dawley has signed to play her college soccer at North Greenville University. Dawley has spent one year with the Tormenta FC Academy and will be graduating in May of 2024 before she joins the Crusaders.

The North Greenville Crusaders play at the Division 2 level and finished their season with an 11-5-2 record going unbeaten in the Southwest division of the Conference Carolinas.

Camryn Hampton signed to play Division 1 soccer for Stetson University who compete in the ASUN Conference. Hampton has spent eight years in the Tormenta FC Academy graduating in May before she enters her freshman season with the Hatters.

The Stetson University Hatters based in DeLand, Florida are coming off a 3-12-3 season having played other division one programs such as Eastern Kentucky University, Jacksonville University, and the University of Florida.

Trinity Grace Maxwell has signed to play for the Carolina University Bruins who compete in the National Christian College Athletics Association. Maxwell has spent two years in the Tormenta Academy leading up to her graduation in May.

The Bruins are 9-5-1 this season and at the moment are competing in the NCCAA South Region Championship game. The Bruins have already defeated Regent University and will be playing Columbia International University in the final.

05/06 Boys Ibis Win NL South Carolina League Group and 07 Boys Qualify for State Cup

Both teams have qualified for the South Carolina State Cup

The 05/06 Boys Ibis finished with a 7-2-1 (W-L-D) record tallying 22 points to win their group this past weekend. The team finished 7 points ahead of the second place team.

The 05/06 Boys Ibis allowed a league best, 11 goals, including four clean sheets. Goalkeeper Tucker Brodnax was between the sticks for three of the clean sheets kept by the league winners.

The team also led their group in goals scored, netting 19 goals during the 10 game league season. Wesley Hooker led the team scoring eight goals while Jackson McNulty, Braylen Dietrich, and Angel Andreucetti were all joint top in assists with three each.

The 07 Boys Ibis finished their National SC State League in third place with five wins, three losses, and two ties.

The team scored 21 goals over the course of the league season led by Conner Sheeran with six goals. Taylan Olcer, Tim O’Gorman, Cesar Etanislao, and Sebastian Marfisi all contributed as well with goals of their own.

Four players shared the top assister spot being, Quinn Hughes, Olcer, O’Gorman, and Marfisi with three assists each.

The National League Conference South Carolina is the highest level of play within South Carolina.

A club and team-based league with true soccer standards to help with successful and sustainable soccer growth in communities across South Carolina; promoting and rewarding consistent standards with access to compete within the National League structure.

South Carolina Conference League Champions directly earn a place in the Piedmont Conference, as well as competing against the rest of the National League teams to qualify for the South Carolina State Cup; a single elimination event that rewards the Champion with a State Cup title, progression into the National Championship Series, and a place in the Piedmont Conference.

Carlos Gomez and Nathan Waters Attending U.S. National ID Center

Carlos Gomez, U15, and Nathan Waters, U14, have been selected to participate in the U.S. Soccer Talent ID Centers (IDCs) on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023 at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground hosted by the U.S. Soccer Federation.

A U.S. Soccer Talent IDC is a free single-day player identification opportunity for top talents to train and play games under the direction of U.S. Soccer Talent Identification Managers. The IDCs are designed to replicate a Youth National Team camp and play a key role in the Talent Identification Plan.

The IDC being attended by Gomez and Waters is designed to identify and evaluate top talents for the Youth National Teams. The session is closed to both parents and spectators as U.S. Soccer’s objective is to create an environment free from any distractions, allowing players to take full responsibility of their personal development.

Tormenta FC Academy Names Sam Jones as Director of Goalkeeping

STATESBORO, Ga. — Tormenta FC Academy announces Sam Jones as the club’s new Director of Goalkeeping. Jones will be in charge of training the club’s goalkeepers for the U12-U19 Boys, as well as assisting the goalkeepers for the U12-U19 Girls.

“I am very excited to be working in this new role. It means a lot for me to have the opportunity to help grow the academy that helped me reach the next level. So far, the goalkeepers have been excellent as we are implementing new ideas and standards into training so that Tormenta FC Academy goalkeepers are ready to play at the college level and beyond.”

Jones was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia. A Tormenta FC Academy alum, he graduated from Benedictine Military School in 2019 before playing collegiately for Winthrop University and in USL League Two for Tormenta FC 2 and New Jersey Copa FC. He worked as a goalkeeper coach with the Charlotte Independence for two years before becoming an assistant coach for Tormenta FC’s USL W League team and USL Academy team in 2023.

Committed to raising the level of soccer locally and across the country, Tormenta FC Academy has programs available from age four all the way up to age 19 and provides a pathway to the professional ranks. Over the years, TFC Academy has helped many talented players on their paths to higher levels of the game, whether it be Indiana Vassilev in Major League Soccer or Paolo Alcocer in the Bolivian Primera División with Club Aurora. In 2019, midfielder Tristan DeLoach became the first TFC Academy talent to sign a USL Academy contract with the professional USL League One team, followed by his peers midfielder Grant Hampton and goalkeeper Stephen O’Hearn in 2020, defender Brittain Gottlieb and forward Tyler Bisseck in 2021 and Aidan Miller, Renzo Andreucetti and Esteban Quintero in 2023. On the women’s side, TFC Academy products, such as Sydney Martinez, Isabella and Helen Gutierrez, Lauren and Erin O’Hearn, and Elise Holcey, have made an impact for Tormenta FC’s pre-professional USL W League team, winning the league title in 2022.

Tormenta FC Academy Announces Recipients of JonPaul Gonzalez Scholarship

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC and The Ibis Foundation are pleased to announce that Grady Shiver, Audrey Jane Moryl, Tucker Brodnax and Yatzil Roldan are the 2023 recipients of the JonPaul Gonzalez Scholarship. In addition, the scholarship will fund new equipment to benefit the whole Academy. The annual scholarship was established by The Ibis Foundation in memory of the late TFC Academy player.

Coaches and Team Managers nominated players based on excellent training attendance and parents that are involved in helping their team and the club.

Shiver will compete with the Tormenta FC Academy 2007 Boys Ibis Statesboro team, Jane Moryl will compete with the Tormenta FC Academy 2010 Girls DPL team, Brodnax will compete in the 2005/06 Tormenta FC Academy Boys Ibis team and Roldan will feature for the Tormenta FC Academy 2012 Girls Ibis team.

JonPaul, a Bluffton, South Carolina native, passed away in a tragic car accident on Dec. 4, 2021. JP was a member of Tormenta FC Academy for a decade, and his family has been heavily involved with the club since its founding.

The Ibis Foundation continues to accept donations in memory of Gonzalez which will go towards funding player scholarships and equipment for the academy.

Tormenta FC Academy and The Ibis Foundation work together to promote the sport of soccer throughout South Georgia and the Low Country by providing resources and training opportunities to local youth at a significantly lower cost.

Tormenta FC’s USL Academy Girls Squad Earns Historic First Win

CONYERS, Ga. – Tormenta FC’s USL Academy Girls squad earned its first-ever win last Saturday in Conyers, Georgia, after defeating East Atlanta FC 2-0 with the goals being scored by Alyssa Abondandolo and Taylor Golden.

South Georgia picked up its first three points of the season after five games played. The team will be playing its final game of the summer on the road on Aug. 6 against division leader Southern Soccer Academy.

Tormenta FC Academy Announces Staff Updates

STATESBORO, Ga. – South Georgia Tormenta FC has announced the promotion of Kian Brownlee to Director of Coaching, the hire of Jon Kinsler as its Director of Pre-competitive Programming and Nick Boegemann as its new Junior Academy Director.

Brownlee has over 21 years of experience in youth soccer and will provide quality leadership and coaching to young players in the Academy. Under this new role, Brownlee will now oversee directors of Junior Academy, Select, MLS NEXT, and DPL, help influence the periodization and curriculum design for each competitive program, as well as hire and assign coaches within the competitive program.

He is the ideal person to oversee the competitive programs at Tormenta FC Academy and continue to raise the bar for youth soccer players in South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina.”

Boegemann will be helping develop the top U8-U12 players within Tormenta FC Academy. Boegemann will play a pivotal part in developing players’ ability to their maximum potential, creating lasting team cohesion and teaching players to become quality young adults.

Boegemann most recently worked at Tri Cities United Soccer Club, where he served as the Director of Coaching & Operations for the organization. Prior to his role at Tri Cities, he worked at Milligan University, where he served as the Recruiting Coordinator and Interim Head Coach of the Women’s Soccer program.

Boegemann holds a USSF C License & United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma. Boegemann received his BBA from King University in 2016 and also earned an MBA from Milligan University in 2021.

Kinsler joins the Tormenta FC Academy as its new Pre-competitive Director, which will oversee

Tormenta Futures, Recreation, and Pre-Academy and directly oversee the Pre-Academy program.

Kinsler most recently coached the boys and girls U9 to U19 soccer programs for Ormond Beach Soccer Club. Kinsler was also the head coach of Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, where he won the state championship in 2017 and was runner-up the following two years.

Kinsler is a Georgia Southern University graduate, where he played on the men’s soccer team for four years. Jon currently holds the USSF National C License.

Tournament Forecast: Tormenta FC Academy Girls at DPL Finals

WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, OH. – As the 2023 Development Player League Finals begin today, Tormenta FC Academy’s U14 Girls DPL team is gearing up to represent South Georgia and the Lowcountry of South Carolina in the national finals being played in West Chester Township, Ohio.

The DPL Finals start today, June 27 and run until July 2 at the Voice of America Athletic Complex, featuring the best teams in the DPL.

TFC Academy has been placed in Group C, where the team will face BC United SA, Florida Hawks Futbol Club and SoCal Elite FC. The U14 group begins play against Florida Hawks FC today, at 3:30 p.m. ET. South Georgia will then take on SoCal Elite FC on June 29, and end the group stage phase against BC United SA on Friday, June 30.

Tormenta FC Academy’s Hollis Melnick, Ayla Reynolds and Madalynn Baker were named to the DPL All-Star team and will feature in the DPL Perform Game on Wednesday, June 28.
