Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and former Women’s National Team member, Christa Williams, to be inducted into Texas Sports Hall of Fame
WACO, Texas – Recently announced by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, former U.S. Olympian and Women’s National Team (WNT) member Christa Williams will be amongst nine inductees who will join the ranks of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Williams joins three-time U.S. Olympian Cat Osterman in the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and will be inducted as part of the Class of 2024 on April 13, 2024.
“It is truly an amazing honor for an extraordinary player,” said USA Softball Chief Sport Development/Performance Officer, Chris Sebren. “We are so fortunate to have had Christa as a part of our USA Softball program that participated in the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games. Congratulations to Christa on this Hall of Fame induction!”
A career that continued to flourish on the international stage, Williams represented Team USA on various rosters – including the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games where the U.S. stood atop the podium. A force in the circle, Williams also competed in the 1994 Pan American Games Qualifier where she threw a perfect game and a no-hitter, finishing the tournament with a 3-0 overall record, 0.00 ERA and 45 strikeouts. Her accolades extend across all levels of the game including two World Championship titles (1995 & 1998), one Pan American Games Qualifier gold medal (1994), one U.S. Olympic Cup gold medal (1999) and two Olympic gold medals (1996 & 2000).
Shining throughout high school and college, Williams attended UCLA before transferring to the University of Texas in 1998 where she earned the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and NCAA Regional Tournament MVP (1998). The standout pitcher was a three-time NCAA All-American (1997, UCLA and 1998, 1999 UT) while also leading her team to the 1998 NCAA Women’s College World Series (WCWS).
Established as the first and largest state sports hall of fame in 1951, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame holds more than 400 Texas legends – three of which highlight the sport of softball (Christa Williams, Cat Osterman and Shawn Andaya).
