Birmingham Legion FC takes to the road on Sunday, September 3 to take on the San Diego Loyal of the USL Championship Western Conference. Kickoff is at 5:00pm CT, and fans can watch the game on My68 or ESPN+.
There are only eight games remaining in the regular season. If Birmingham still wishes to reach the top four of the Eastern Conference in order to secure a home playoff game, every game is a must-win. A lot is at stake.
Legion FC’s Form
The Black & Gold have two wins, two losses, and one draw in its last five. In its last outing, Birmingham took a loss at home against Detroit City FC. Legion FC held the lead multiple times throughout the match, but many individual errors throughout the game led to the 3-2 loss. Both Enzo Martinez and Neco Brett scored goals in the game. The pair now lead Legion FC with ten goals scored respectively.
“We’re trying to make the final top four so we can get a home playoff game,” said all-time leading Legion goalscorer Brett. “Every game game right now is very important so we’re just trying to get three points.”
Birmingham’s defense looked sharp against Louisville City and FC Tulsa earlier in August. The Legionnaires must replicate its defensive resilience against a really good San Diego side that scores a lot of goals in order to return home with a win.
Birmingham added Preston Etaka to its roster in August. The former Las Vegas Lights winger made his home debut last Sunday. He looked very promising, getting behind Detroit’s back line multiple times and serving three crosses in his 20-minute shift.
