Stats – Legion FC Match Center
Three wins in a row have Legion FC just two points off the top spot in the Central Division with five matches left in the regular season. The defense seems to be peaking at the right moment, having allowed only one goal over those three contests, and just three in its last five, thanks in part to stellar play from center back Alex Crognale.
Crognale earned a spot in the Week 24 USL Championship Team of the Week after his game-winning goal last game at SKC and his efforts, along with captain Phanuel Kavita, goalkeeper Matt VanOekel, fullbacks Jonny Dean and Ryan James, and others, in keeping the team’s eighth shutout of the season. Crognale now leads the side in clearances (93) and is third in interceptions (34).
The attack continues to be led by Neco Brett, who is tied for third in the USLC with 15 goals this season, but will be without Junior Flemmings, who is on international duty with Jamaica. Forwards JJ Williams and Jaden Servania, along with midfielders Bruno Lapa and Prosper Kasim, will relied upon to pick up the slack.
BHM lost the first meeting with IND this year, 1-0 at home on May 1, then won the next two, 1-0 and 2-1 at Indy in July. Brett won the first match on July 3 with a penalty, and on July 24 Dean buried a game winner in second half stoppage time.
Indy Eleven comes into the match sitting in seventh in the Central Division, still fighting for that fourth and final playoff spot. With just five matches left, every game is a must-win at this point if Indiana’s team wants to reach the postseason, so BHM will have to be ready for anything.
The Eleven attack has sputtered a bit recently, having produced just two goals in its last five matches, with the 29 goals on the season sitting in a tie for 23rd most in the league. Manuel Arteaga leads the way with nine goals scored on 61 shots this year, Ayoze and Gordon Wild are tied for first in assists with four each, and Wild is tops with 43 chances created.
The defense has been solid and is led by Trinidad international Neveal Hackshaw, while midfielder Nicky Law is another player to watch out for, having played in every game this season after transferring in from English-side Exeter following a lengthy career in the UK.
On this week’s VIVA Health injury report, Legion FC midfielder Daigo Kobayashi (knee) is still listed as questionable. The only other player unavailable for selection is defender Freddy Kleemann, as he has been recalled from loan by Austin FC.
It will also be Vulcan Materials Company Salute to Service Night at BBVA Field, so military veterans can go to vettix.org for access to complimentary tickets!
