Legion FC returns to USL Championship action tomorrow with a trip to Leesburg, Virginia, to take on Loudoun United. The meeting between the two sides will be the first since August 2019, a match that saw the Three Sparks take a point on the road in a 1-1 draw.
Head Coach Tommy Soehn and his men will look to return to winning ways after losing on the road to Detroit City FC in league play and exiting the U.S. Open Cup following a 2-0 loss to USL League One side South Georgia Tormenta FC. The trip to Virginia presents Coach Soehn’s side the perfect opportunity to do so, as Loudoun has dropped its last three matches in the USLC.
The story for the Black & Gold so far this season has been one of needing that final touch. Legion FC has outshot its opponents in four of its six league matches so far this season, but have only managed to find the back of the net four times. The good news for the Three Sparks is that Loudoun United come into the contest after allowing four goals in their most recent outing against Oakland Roots SC. With the hosts currently on a skid and the Birmingham floodgates waiting to be opened, Sunday presents them with a chance to finally do so.
Head Coach Ryan Martin and Loudoun United, however, will look to make things difficult for Legion FC, as they welcome the Black & Gold to Segra Field hoping to right the ship and defend home turf. Loudoun got off to an impressive start this season, earning seven out of a possible nine points in their first three games and scoring four goals along the way. Since then, Coach Martin’s side has conceded eight times and only found the back of the net once.
Midfielder Tyler Freeman leads the way in scoring for his side (2), while defender Sami Guedirir has created the most chances (11). These two will be players to watch out for, as they will look rediscover their attacking form and inspire their side to three points.
With both sides looking to return to winning ways, expect a hard-fought, fast paced match.
Two BHM players make up this week’s UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine Injury Report – forward Juan Agudelo is out (knee) and midfielder Matthew Corcoran is questionable (knee).
The next home match for the Black and Gold will be on Wednesday, April 27, at 7:00PM CT against the Charleston Battery. Details about our new ‘Everybody Wins on Wednesdays’ can be found HERE. Keep up with Legion FC by following along @bhmlegion on social, and get your tickets today!
