Birmingham Legion FC returns home to Protective Stadium on Wednesday, April 27, after achieving victory at Loudoun United. The Black & Gold welcome Eastern Conference rival Charleston Battery to the Magic City looking to build off of their 2-1 win in Leesburg.
Legion FC’s win at Segra Field was its second of the USL Championship season. Forwards Enzo Martinez and Macky Diop bagged their first goals in Black & Gold to secure all three points for their side. The win is one players and fans alike hope will serve as a launching point for a run of consecutive wins, as Birmingham is yet to piece together back-to-back victories in league play this season.
Martinez will continue to play a key role in the Three Sparks’ ability to do – earning USLC Team of the Week honors for his performance against Loudoun, the Uruguayan added to his club leading assist total (2), as well as the number of chances he has created (17) in his team’s victory. The 31-year-old’s presence is a must have for Head Coach Tommy Soehn’s side, bringing a constant spark to the Legion FC attack.
Charleston comes to the 205 looking to stifle Martinez and Legion FC, as they will hope to kickstart a run of their own. The Battery are winless in the USLC since their opening day victory over FC Tulsa, with their only point since the 1-0 victory coming in their most recent outing, a 1-1 draw with Eastern Conference leaders Louisville City FC.
Forwards Mauro Cichero and Augustine Williams lead Charleston in goalscoring (2), while midfielder Andrew Booth leads the way in chances created (7). Cichero is currently the man in form for Head Coach Conor Casey, scoring in each of his last two matches. Ensuring he has a quiet night will be a key for the Black & Gold if they are to come away with another win.
Only one BHM player makes up this week’s UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine Injury Report – midfielder Matthew Corcoran is questionable (knee).
Tomorrow also kicks off Legion FC’s 2022 ‘Everybody Wins on Wednesday’ campaign! After the completion of the Mountain Brook vs Indian Springs high school game at Protective at 4:00pm, drink deals including $4 Miller Lites, $6 White Claws, and $6 canned Trim Tab beers will be available starting at 6:00pm in the South Plaza area underneath the videoboard.
