BIRMINGHAM, AL (Jan 9, 2023) – The USL Championship today announced Legion FC’s full 2023 schedule, with the Club set to play every team in the USLC for the first time ever in 34 matches across a 32-week regular season.
The Magic City’s Legionnaires kick off the 2023 regular season at Protective Stadium on Saturday, March 11 at 6:30pm versus the Pittsburgh Riverhounds is a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s playoff showdown. Find more information about the home opener and season tickets here.
88% of Legion FC’s home games in 2023 will take place on the weekend this season, with one Friday night game the second week of the season (March 7, FC Tulsa), 10 Saturdays, and four Sundays in the fall to close out the home slate.
Birmingham will play the other 11 teams in the Eastern Conference twice each, once at home and once away, and then will play all twelve of Western Conference teams one time each, with half of those contests taking place at Protective Stadium.
Key matchups to circle on the calendar abound in 2023. Perennial USLC heavyweight Phoenix Rising FC makes its first trip to Alabama on Saturday, April 8, dreaded rivals Memphis 901 FC come to town on Wednesday, June 7, your #ThreeSparks battle Eastern Conference favorites Louisville City FC twice in a month late in the summer (at LOU Saturday, July 22, in BHM Saturday, August 19), and we make the return trip to up I-22 to Memphis for a pivotal clash in the East race on Saturday, September 30.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top eight teams in each conference will qualify for the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs. The USL Championship Playoffs will remain a single-elimination format and will return to a fixed bracket format, culminating in the 2023 USL Championship Final on a to be determined date from November 9-13, 2023.
