Birmingham Legion FC hits the road on Saturday, July 1 to take on San Antonio FC of the USL Championship Western Conference. Having won its last two matches at home against Indy Eleven and Loudoun United, Birmingham will aim to continue its winning streak in Texas by beating the 2022 USL Champions on its home turf.
For one of the first times this season, Head Coach Tommy Soehn will be able to utilize a fully healthy and fit Legion roster against San Antonio. It will be an interesting match to see how the two teams pair up. While Legion have everyone of its players available, the Texas side will be without its starting goalkeeper Jordan Farr for the first time this season. The goalkeeper picked up a red card in San Antonio’s 3-1 loss against Sacramento Republic FC on June 24.
In its last outing, Legion FC confidently beat Loudoun United 2-0 at home. Diba Nwegbo and Neco Brett combined for the two goals that sealed the win. Nwegbo, 21 years old, netted the crucial first goal of the match. He did the same a week prior against Indy Eleven when he scored the first goal of his USL Championship career. The youngster has hit his stride with two goals in two matches.
Brett has managed to net an assist and one goal in his first two matches back from a hamstring injury. Brett is Birmingham’s all-time leading goalscorer with 31 goals.
