Birmingham Legion FC vs Louisville City FC
Saturday, July 22
7:00 pm CT Kickoff
Lynn Family Stadium – Louisville, KY
Watch – My68 & ESPN+
Birmingham Legion FC (6th) hit the road on Saturday, July 22 to take on local rivals Louisville City FC (5th). Birmingham sits three points behind Louisville in the USL Championship Eastern Conference standings (26) and are even on goal differential with Louisville (-2), so a win for Legion would move it up in the standings to 5th place.
Coming off of a win at home, but not having won an away match since April 22 against Orange County SC, Legion is looking to improve its away form and its spot on the Eastern Conference table with a win against Louisville. In its last fair against the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Birmingham ended the Florida club’s 11-match unbeaten streak thanks to a clean sheet courtesy of Legion’s defense and a goal by Enzo Martinez.
Martinez leads the Black & Gold in goals scored so far this season (eight) and ties for the most assists on the team (five) with Prosper Kasim. Both Martinez and Kasim are tied for the most assists in the League.
There is a lot of club history between Birmingham and Louisville, but more so for Legion FC history. Louisville FC was the first USL team that Legion beat in its inaugural season in 2019. Out of the ten matches played between both southeastern sides, Legion has won two, drawn three, and lost five. The last time the Legionnaires got the better of Louisville was August 28, 2021.
Opponent Info:
Louisville City FC: 8W – 6L – 5D / 17 Goals Scored – 21 Goals Allowed / 29 Points / 5th in USLC Eastern Conference
Louisville’s aim against Birmingham is to improve its form and not lose its 5th place spot in the standings. The Kentucky side has lost its last two matches against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on July 12 and Detroit City FC on July 19. Louisville is always a formidable team to play against regardless of its form, so the Black & Gold can expect a very challenging game.
Wilson Harris leads City in goals scored this season (four). Behind him is Sean Totsch with three. Many players on the squad have scored two goals, but scoring a lot of goals has not been Louisville’s tactic this season. Its defense has produced nine clean sheets, the second most in the USL Championship, and have only let in 21 goals.
