Legion FC has been featured on the USLC’s Team of the Week for three weeks in a row
TAMPA, FL – The USL Championship announced the Team of the Week for Week 19 of the 2023 regular season on Tuesday, with Legion FC’s Matthew Corcoran and Alex Crognale both receiving the honor.
Crognale and Corcoran were instrumental in Legion FC’s win over Louisville City on the road, Birmingham’s first away win since April. Corcoran, 17 years old and with his second TOTW honor this season, displayed his quality and composure in Louisville. The youngster led both sides in tackles (four), crosses (3), and provided the two assists responsible for the goals the Black & Gold scored in the fixture. Both assists were from the corner kick flag.

For Crognale, this is the defender’s third Team of the Week honor this season. A back-heel goal off of a corner to win against rivals in added time will do that. In addition to his wondrous goal, Crognale led his side in touches (75), total passes (61), and interceptions (four). As a centerback who has only ever scored for Birmingham with his head, Crognale showed a quality in finishing that many might not have known he possessed. It’s no wonder his goal is up for vote on the USL Championship’s Goal of the Week. You can vote for Crognale here!
Miami FC’s Ryan Telfer earned 36 percent of the ballot to claim the Player of the Week award. Birmingham Legion FC’s Matthew Corcoran finished second on 29 percent after the 17-year-old recorded both assists as Legion FC rallied to take a 2-1 victory on the road against Louisville City FC on Saturday night.
The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship.
