No matter what you do in the military or as a first responder, you do it for the people to your left and right. That camaraderie is what keeps you there.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (September 6, 2023) – Birmingham Legion FC announced its annual Salute to Service, presented by Vulcan Materials, to take place on Sunday, September 10th at 5:30pm. The match will celebrate and honor service members, veterans, and their families. Legion welcomes Birmingham’s dedicated community of first responders, police, and active or past armed service members to the match.
In addition to Sunday’s match, Legion announced a new partnership with Vet Tix, one of many new avenues for season ticket members to donate their tickets to service members.
Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and avid Legion FC supporter Scooter Thomas said, “No matter what you do in the military or as a first responder, you do it for the people to your left and right. That camaraderie is what keeps you there. When I got back from the military, my buddies from my high school soccer team started going to Legion games. I’ve loved going to the games and seeing the environment that’s been created by the Birmingham fanbase. It’s been great to see that community and camaraderie grow. I encourage any service members to check out Legion, especially with the Vet Tix program.”
President and GM Jay Heaps wrote, “Sunday’s match is a perfect chance for Birmingham to honor our community of service. No one embodies Legion’s values of passion, pride, and community more than our service members. We’re excited to celebrate and honor them with an exciting game and the passionate environment that’s been built by the Legion fanbase.”
On the Vet Tix program, Heaps noted, “Community is at the heart of Legion’s mission. When we looked at our 2024 Season Membership, we decided to offer a benefit where members can donate tickets for a match they aren’t able to attend to different nonprofits, including Vet Tix. We’re excited to reach more local service members and their families. We’re proud to introduce this to our community and invite more service members to join Legion Nation.”
Legion’s Salute to Service will take place on Sunday, September 10th with a special $3 beer happy hour before the game. Gates open at 4:30 and kickoff is at 5:30pm. The match will feature the University of Alabama at Birmingham Color Guard and honor Thomas as one of Legion’s Blue Cross Blue Shield 99 Community Heroes.
With four home games remaining in the regular season, Legion FC will kick off the Salute to Service at Protective Stadium on Sunday, September 10th, at 5:30pm versus New Mexico United. See how you can get in on the action at bhmlegion.com/playoffpush/ or on your choice of social network.
