CHARLESTON – Outside back O’Brian Woodbine was named to the USL Team of the Week after helping the Battery defeat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-1 at Highmark Stadium Saturday night.
The veteran defender got in behind Pittsburgh’s back four and was brought down for a penalty late in the first half. Woodbine converted the spot kicked and opened the scoring in 39th minute. Although the goal was the his first of the year, the Jamaican has been an integral piece of the Battery attack this season.
In addition to successfully fulfilling his defensive duties, Woodbine has consistently run the flanks for Charleston to help the team keep possession in the attacking third. His pace and fitness make him a handful for opposing defenders. The outside back continues to get himself into positions to serve dangerous balls into the box for the Battery forwards. Woodbine has appeared in 11 of Charleston’s 12 matches and is one of the team leaders in minutes.
Woodbine and the Battery will take on Orlando City B Saturday night at MUSC Health Stadium. Come out and watch the USL match at 5:00pm followed by a USA vs. Paraguay watch party. Purchase tickets here
