With an exciting 2020 rookie campaign in the books, Stavros Zarokostas is set to return to Charleston for the 2021 season, pending league and federation approval. The dynamic forward will look to make even more of an impact in his second season for the Black and Yellow after exhibiting his goal-scoring prowess this past year.
Zarokostas made a seamless transition from the college to professional level playing 838 minutes in his first year for the Battery. Through 16 appearances, Stavros scored five times, second only to team co-leaders Zeiko Lewis and Nicque Daley, with several goals coming at crucial points during the 2020 season. Zarokostas’ lone goal in the 22nd minute of a shutout victory over the Tampa Bay Rowdies handed Tampa Bay their first loss for the season. Stavros’ third goal, a brilliant curling effort from 30 yards out against The Miami FC on September 5, earned USL Goal of the Month honors.
In the regular season finale, Stavros scored his final two goals while registering his first professional brace in a 2-1 victory over the Rowdies yet again. Zarokostas would go on to start in both matches during Charleston’s postseason run and earn the fans’ vote for the Betsy McAdams Newcomer of the Year. In looking ahead to 2021, Zarokostas noted, “I’m most excited about taking our team’s chemistry even further.”
