UPDATE: Thursday’s contest between the Charleston Battery and South Georgia Tormenta FC will be played at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, April 7, behind closed doors and streamed on ESPN+.
The Charleston Battery announced today that, due to damage sustained at the stadium at Patriots Point following last night’s storms, out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against South Georgia Tormenta FC will be closed to the public.
The stadium playing surface and player areas were not affected and the field has been cleared for match play this evening.
Fans who purchased tickets to Wednesday’s match will receive direct communication from the Battery with the opportunity to use their purchased tickets at a future match this season or receive a refund.
The match will commence as scheduled with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET. Fans will be able watch the Second Round matchup with Tormenta FC on ESPN+.
The Battery are also hosting fans for an official watch party tonight at The Kickin’ Chicken in Mt. Pleasant (W Coleman Blvd).
While the club regrets that fans cannot be with the team tonight as the Open Cup campaign kicks off against Tormenta, the Battery look forward to having everyone back on Saturday, April 23, for Family Day at Patriots Point as the Black and Yellow take on Louisville City FC at 5 p.m. ET.
