Charleston Battery players Leland Archer and Augi Williams have been called up to represent their national teams in the upcoming confederation cup competitions.
Archer (three caps) returns to the Trinidad and Tobago national team for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup group stage. The Soca Warriors are part of Group A alongside the United States, Jamaica and a TBD nation. Trinidad and Tobago originally started in the preliminary rounds but advanced directly to the group stage after Nicaragua were disqualified from the competition following a Concacaf ruling and thus replaced by the Soca Warriors.
Trinidad and Tobago will face the TBD nation on June 25 at DRV PNK Stadium, Jamaica on June 28 at CITYPARK and the United States on July 2 at Bank of America Stadium. Fans can watch all the matches via FOX/Tubi.
Williams (six caps) rejoins the Sierra Leone national team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification round. The Leone Stars will face Nigeria on Sun., June 18, at SKD Stadium in Liberia at 12 p.m. ET.
A victory over the Super Eagles would place Sierra Leone in a favorable position to qualify for the tournament. The final qualification match is in September, against Guinea-Bissau. Williams was also part of the national team when Sierra Leone qualified for AFCON 2021.
Both Archer and Williams have been active members of their respective national teams recently. Archer competed with the Soca Warriors during the Concacaf Nations League back in March and featured against the Bahamas. Williams started for the Leone Stars last November in a friendly against Algeria.
Williams will return from international duty following the Nigeria match and ahead of the Battery’s away fixture against Memphis 901 FC on June 24. Archer’s return is TBD based on how far Trinidad and Tobago progress in the Gold Cup, the group stage lasts until July 4 and the final is on July 16.
Best of luck on the international stage, Leland and Augi!
