The Charleston Battery are pleased to announce Thursday the re-signing of Charleston native Enzo Mori to a USL Academy contract, pending league and federation approval. The goalkeeper returns for his second season with the Battery on an Academy contract.
Mori was a standout for Stratford High School in Goose Creek and graduated in May 2024. The USL Academy contract will allow Mori to gain experience at the professional level while still preserving their college soccer eligibility.
“I’m looking forward to enjoying every moment I can with this amazing club and getting to continue my career here in my hometown,” said Mori. “My experiences with the club have helped me grow in many different ways, on and off the field. The team is like a family and we look after one another and guide each other.”
Mori made his professional debut on July 27, 2024, entering the match off the bench against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
“Enzo has been with us for a couple of seasons now and you can really see his growth from both the technical side of his development, but also as a person and a professional,” said Head Coach Ben Pirmann. “When players earn the opportunity to be involved with the first team, it benefits everyone involved.
“Enzo only continues to get better. The game is slowing down for him and he is executing at a high level. He earned first team minutes last year and has given our goalkeeping unit another young and selfless asset.”
Born and raised in Goose Creek, Mori starred for the Stratford Knights. He was named the Best of Prep Sports male soccer player of the year in May 2024, garnered numerous all-state and all-region honors during his high school career, and captained the team his senior year. At the youth club level, Mori played for SC Surf Soccer Club and Charleston City FC.
In addition to being a Charleston native, Mori is of Peruvian descent and is a dual citizen of both Peru and the United States.
The shot-stopper is looking forward to another season with his hometown club.
“It’s a blessing to every day put on the badge I once wore while growing up and dreaming to be a soccer player,” said Mori.
Mori will retain the number 0.
