The USL Championship announced Tuesday that Charleston Battery forward MD Myers was named the Week 7 Player of the Week, presented by Konami eFootball, along with midfielder Arturo Rodriguez being selected to the Team of the Week.
The honors are just awards for the duo, who accounted for all of the Battery’s goals in the 1-3 road win over Indy Eleven.
Myers continued his hot week with a brace after only eight minutes, tagging Indy twice in the blink of an eye. Myers’ first goal was the result of some strong passing from Houssou Landry and Juan David Torres to unlock the opener, which Myers finished clinically. His second goal was the result of the pressure he and Cal Jennings applied, with Jennings assisting Myers right in front of the goal, relatively uncontested, to knock the ball in. The striker also registered two duels won, one chance created and 17/18 passing accuracy.
It’s the first Player of the Week award for Myers and the Battery this year after the striker earned the recognition once in 2024 (Week 17).
Rodriguez was impactful in just 65 minutes of action at Carroll Stadium, scoring his first goal of the season right after halftime. It was a sublime strike from the edge of the box to the top far corner. Rodriguez led the match with 10 duels won, along with recording six recoveries, two tackles won and one chance created. It’s Rodriguez’s first Team of the Week award of the year.
The honors bring the club’s Team of the Week selections to six so far in 2025.
The Championship’s Player of the Week is selected by the USL National Media Panel, which is made up of representatives from each media market in the Championship. Myers finished with 45% of the ballot, while FC Tulsa’s Taylor Calheira finished second on 36%.
Charleston’s next game will be away in the USL Jägermeister Cup against USL League One leaders FC Naples on April 26. The Battery’s next home match is on Sat., May 3, against Hartford Athletic.
