CHARLOTTE (July 6, 2020) – Goalkeeper Lucas Hatsios put pen to paper this month on a new academy contract with the Charlotte Independence. The Charlotte Independence Soccer Club academy product will be joining the Jacks for the second time in two years.
Pending league and federation approval, the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club academy product will be eligible for selection when the Independence returns to USL Championship action on Wednesday, July 22nd against Miami FC.
“I’m excited to be back,” said Hatsios. “I’m ready to take my game to the next level, hopefully get some minutes this year, but most importantly I am ready to take full advantage of this opportunity to grow as a player and person.”
Launched in 2019, Independence Soccer Club’s affiliation with the Charlotte Independence provides players a clear pathway to the highest level of professional soccer. Hatsios is one of four Independence Soccer Club players signed to an academy contract with the first team.

As a U14, he received a call up to a U.S. Youth National Team Training Camp. Additionally, Hatsios has trained with the Colorado Rapids Academy and Real Salt Lake Academy.
“Lucas will bring us good competition between the posts,” said Independence head coach Mike Jeffries. "It will be good to have him in training and we are excited to put him to work.”
