This season also marks the first iteration of the league’s new playoff format, where two teams from eight groups will qualify and each round features single-elimination matches. The 16-team bracket will remain in a regionalized single-elimination bracket, with the four group winners in each conference earning hosting rights for the Eastern and Western Conference Quarterfinals. Following the opening round, hosting rights will be determined by regular season record.
With one match remaining, the Jacks could finish anywhere from first to third in the Group G standings. Should NCFC win tonight, the Independence will advance with a win or draw against NCFC on October 1 (7 p.m. ET; ESPN+).
