CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 29, 2021) – The Charlotte Independence announced today that they will be adding to their midfield arsenal with the signing of French midfielder, Sylvain Marveaux. He comes to the Jacks after five years with FC Lorient, a League One team in the top flight of French fútbol.
“Coming directly from League One France, Sylvain will add a great deal of quality and experience to our side,” stated Charlotte Independence Head Coach, Mike Jeffries. “His creativity and ability on the ball will enhance our attack. As a midfielder, he can connect the game well, find incisive passes to teammates, and is another capable finisher.”
Marveaux is a former French under-21 international having earned caps with the team from 2006 to 2008.
In 2011, Marveaux signed a five-year deal with Premier League club, Newcastle United. He made his first competitive start in a win at Scunthorpe United playing the full 120 minutes that included extra time. Marveaux scored his first goal for Newcastle in a 1–1 UEFA Europa League draw with C.S. Marítimo. He scored his first ever Premier League goal in the Magpies' fixture at Emirates Stadium against Arsenal.
Marveaux joined Guingamp, a Breton Association Football Club, in 2014 where he competed for one season before signing with FC Lorient in 2016. Throughout the course of his professional career, Marveaux has made 224 appearances and scored 43 goals.

The Jacks make their first home appearance at the new American Legion Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, July 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM (ET).
