
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 17, 2022) – The Charlotte Independence announced today that the club has acquired midfielder Chris Hegardt on a short-term loan from Charlotte FC, pending league and federation approval. The Independence are on the road this weekend for a USL League One match on Saturday, June 18 against North Carolina FC.
Hegardt was signed by Charlotte FC ahead of the club’s inaugural season and has made two appearances in 2022.
Hegardt was a four-year starter with the Seattle Sounders Academy, helping his U-17 team become the first MLS team to ever win the Generation Adidas Cup in 2019.
On August 9, 2019, Hegardt made his professional debut for the Tacoma Defiance in the USL Championship. He went on to appear in 17 matches and scored one goal for the Defiance.
In college, Hegardt played with the Georgetown Hoyas and scored three goals in 31 matches across two seasons. In 2021, he helped Georgetown win the Big East Championship.
