
CHATTANOOGA,Tenn. (Nov. 8, 2018) – Irish footballer Steven Beattie has signed with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s USL League One team. Beattie will join the franchise for its 2019 Inaugural Season from Cork City FC, pending league and federation approval.
A key player for Cork City for four seasons, Beattie appeared in 101 league games, tallied 10 goals and 20 assists and received 14 man of the match and 14 league team of the week awards. His talent led his club to multiple championship wins, including: League of Ireland Premier Division Champions (2017), FAI Cup (2016 and 2017), Presidents Cup (2016, 2017, 2018) and Munster Senior Cup (2017).
“Steven prides himself on his work-rate as a two-way player, aiming to excel at both offense and defense,” said Tim Hankinson, head coach and technical director for Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. “I look to not only utilize his expertise in the attacking and middle thirds setting up scoring opportunities, but I also have expectations for Steven as a goalscorer himself.”
During his time with Cork City FC, Beattie appeared in 14 UEFA Europa League games, earning his club one goal, two assists and himself two “Man of the Match” awards. He also made two appearances in UEFA Champions League matches with Cork City FC versus Legia Warsaw (Poland).
“Joining Chattanooga Red Wolves SC is a huge honor, and I couldn’t be more excited,” said Beattie. “I have high hopes for the 2019 season, and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
Beattie joined Cork City after spending a season with Sligo Rovers, another League of Ireland Premier Division team. There, he garnered three goals and four assists in 15 appearances. Prior, he had stints with Bohemians FC in Ireland, as well as Icelandic side Tindastóll FC.
Beattie was selected in the First Round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft by Toronto FC after a successful four years at Northern Kentucky University, where he earned All-American honors. While part of the NKU program, Beattie also competed in USL League Two for the St. Louis Lions and Cincinnati Kings, and while with the Kings earned All-Central Conference honors in the 2010 season.
Beattie is the fourth signing for the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC roster.
