CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Nov. 12, 2018) – Colin Falvey has signed with Chattanooga Red Wolves SC’s USL League One team. The Irish defender—who earned USL Defender of the Year honors with the Charleston Battery in 2013—will join the franchise for its 2019 Inaugural Season from Ottawa Fury FC, pending league and federation approval.
First joining Fury FC in 2015, Falvey led the club to a Fall Championship and earn a trip to the Soccer Bowl. Appearing in every match, Falvey helped Ottawa break the league record for longest shutout streak (648 minutes) and most shutouts in a season (14). Most recently, during his second stint for the club in 2018, Falvey made 12 appearances tallying one goal for the Fury.
In 2016, Falvey moved to Indianapolis for two seasons where he captained Indy Eleven to an undefeated record as it claimed the 2016 Spring Season Championship, which also saw Falvey reach the Soccer Bowl for a second straight year. In two seasons with Indy, Falvey played in 55 contests and led the league in blocked shots in 2017.
“Colin was my former Captain at Indy Eleven and the best and strongest leader I have coached,” said Tim Hankinson, head coach and technical director for Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. “As a center back, he is an organizer and without question his toughness in the tackle is outstanding.”
After playing in Ireland and New Zealand, Falvey began his North American journey in 2009 with Wilmington Hammerheads FC in the USL Second Division. He won the club’s defensive MVP award and helped his team win the regular season title. After a six-month stint in New Zealand, Falvey returned to USL and signed with the Charleston Battery.
An instrumental player who in five seasons with Charleston, for which he also served as captain, helped the club win the 2010 USL Second Division Championship in his first year and then led the side to the USL Cup in 2012. The following season he was named as the USL Defender of the Year as his talent lead the Battery to the Fourth Round of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, scoring the winning goal in the club’s 1-0 win against Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes in the Third Round.
“I’m thrilled to be coming to Chattanooga to join the Red Wolves SC organization for its USL League One debut,” said Falvey. “It’s an honor to get to play under Coach Hankinson again for a brand new franchise, and I could not be more ready to get started.”
Falvey is the fifth signing for the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC roster.
