The Chattanooga Red Wolves will be back in action this weekend against South Georgia Tormenta FC at CHI Memorial Stadium for their second home game of the season. The game is scheduled to kickoff at 1:00 PM EST, and it will be a very important game for the Red Wolves. This will be a good test for the Red Wolves, as they will look to bounce back from a tough loss to the league leaders in Greenville Triumph last Saturday. The Red Wolves need to pick up this win at home to get back on track in the League Standings, however, this will not come easy as Tormenta is desperate for a win. Tormenta is currently on a three-game losing streak, but they will have hope as they were able to salvage a point against the Red Wolves in a 2-2 draw in the 2020 season opener at home. Tormenta will do everything they can to ruin the day for Chattanooga, and will be eager to become the first team to beat the Red Wolves at CHI Memorial Stadium.
The Red Wolves have never been beaten by Tormenta in Chattanooga’s two year existence, and will not be looking to change that anytime soon. In 2019, the teams met 3 times, with Chattanooga winning the first two, and ending the series in a tie. The Red Wolves beat Tormenta 3-2 at home in the first ever match between the two teams in April of 2019, followed by a 2-1 win on the road in Statesboro. The teams concluded their 3 games with a 1-1 draw at the end of August. The Red Wolves wrapped up their inaugural 2019 season ranked one spot above Tormenta, sitting at #5. Tormenta ended 3 points behind the Red Wolves with 37 pts.
Both teams kicked off the 2020 season against each other, in a hard fought 2-2 draw at Erk Russell Park, home of South Georgia Tormenta FC. The multi-goal contest was an attacking battle to jumpstart the year. The Red Wolves went into halftime down 1-0 to Tormenta, who struck first and were able to take advantage of an early chance. Chattanooga came out of the half on fire, however, scoring back to back goals to take the 2-1 lead over Tormenta FC, with both goals coming from Chattanooga Forward Greg Hurst. The Red Wolves held the 2-1 lead for most of the game and were beginning to taste victory, but Tormenta was able to create and opportunity once more and score late in the dying moments of the game to salvage a point. The brace from Hurst earned him man of the match, and his performance, along with that of Ami Pineda, earned them league recognition. Hurst made USL League One Team of the Week, accompanied by Ami Pineda who was credited with an assist.
Although the season opener against Tormenta ended all square, the Red Wolves were not at all satisfied with a draw and will be out to prove themselves and make up for it with an important win this Saturday. Make sure to tune in to ESPN+ at 1:00 PM EST to watch the Chattanooga Red Wolves take on South Georgia Tormenta FC at CHI Memorial Stadium in a USL League One matchup.
