CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Dec. 13th, 2020) This afternoon, Chattanooga announced Josue España as their fourth new player signing for the 2021 season.
A 25 year old midfielder, Josue España is a high pedigree player. España played his youth career with Jimmy Obleda’s Fullerton Rangers Academy before moving on to play for LA Galaxy’s Development Academy. He then went on to play at nationally ranked FIU where he logged two goals and two assists before transferring to another national powerhouse UC Santa Barbara. At UCSB, España notched three goals, led the team in assists with 11, logged over 3,000 on field minutes and was named to the Big West First Team in both of his years at the program.
España is a dynamic, technical player that Head Coach Jimmy Obleda is eager to welcome into his system “Josue is a special type of player, a very different type of player,” says Obleda. “Josue can beat you in a 1v1 situation or combine play to break a team down. His dynamic play will add to the explosive attack we plan to have for 2021.”
España is the third midfielder signed for 2021 alongside newcomers Jimmie Villalobos and Jose Carrera Garcia, formerly of the Las Vegas Lights. With the midfield being heavily revamped from 2020, President Sean McDaniel and Head Coach Jimmy Obleda see España as a key piece for their new vision. “Josue gives us exactly what we are looking for in the middle of the field,” says McDaniel. “We have high hopes for him as we continue shaping our roster.”
For España, the decision to come to Chattanooga was easy. “I was really drawn to the Red Wolves by the coaching staff and the opportunity to grow and learn,” says España. “I’m excited to be a part of such a professional organization and to play alongside players that I have history with like Ricky Ruiz, Marky Hernandez and Ro Pineda.” Being a California native, España saw Chattanooga as a great city to land in. “I’m excited to be in the Scenic City. I appreciate cities with lots of views and hiking trails,” says Josue. “I’m looking forward to getting to do some outdoor activities.”
Josue España is the eleventh player signed to the Red Wolves this 2021 season. España’s consistency and persistence plus offensive flair make him primed to become a key player in the 2021 campaign.
