Houston, Texas — Detroit City FC finishes up its three-game road trip with a midweek matchup against Houston Dynamo FC of Major League Soccer in the Round of 32 in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Kickoff is set for 8 PM EDT at Shell Energy Stadium and will be streamed live on ussoccer.com.
Le Rouge comes into this matchup off of a 0-0 draw on Saturday to Loudoun United. A constant rain throughout the 90 minutes led to periods of sloppy play and few chances for both sides.
Houston currently sits in 8th place in the MLS Western Conference. This past weekend, they drew against St. Louis City SC 0-0. Houston has only won one out of their last 5 games, defeating Minnesota United 2-1 on April 13.
Dynamo comes into this match as defending US Open Cup champions, defeating Inter Miami CF 2-1 last September. Goals from Griffin Dorsey and Amine Bassi led Houston to their first US Open Cup championship since 2018.
Detroit City FC head coach Danny Dichio played against Houston Dynamo FC four times between 2007 and 2009 when he was a player at Toronto FC. His record against Houston as a player was 0-3-1, he notched an assist in Toronto FC’s 3-1 loss to the Dynamo on June 8, 2008.
With their win against Michigan Stars last round, Detroit City now ties their 2022 run as the longest run in the US Open Cup in club history. In 2022, Le Rouge defeated Michigan Stars in the second round, upset MLS side Columbus Crew at Keyworth Stadium in the third round, and fell to Louisville City FC in the round of 32 in a penalty-kick shootout.
Last season, Detroit City started their US Open Cup run in the second round with a 1-0 victory over Gold Star FC Detroit before falling to MLS side Minnesota United FC 3-1 at Keyworth in the third round.
The winner of tomorrow’s match will face the winner of San Antonio FC vs. Indy Eleven in the Round of 16.
Le Rouge returns home to Keyworth Stadium this Saturday to face Phoenix Rising FC. Tickets for that match can be found at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
