DETROIT — Detroit City FC and Monterey Bay FC battled on Saturday afternoon to share the points in a 0-0 draw. Both sides had a few opportunities to break the deadlock, but both goaltenders stood tall, seeing DCFC pick up its second home draw of 2025.
Head Coach Danny Dichio made a few modifications from the starting XI that took the field in Louisville last weekend, as Morey Doner, Ryan Williams, and Connor Rutz all picked up their first starts on the season.
Detroit City would have the first opportunity of the night in the 23rd minute. A corner kick was driven to the far side of the box, and Devon Amoo-Mensah was there waiting to head it. His header deflected off a Monterey defender and was cleared out of the attacking third.
Just moments later, Ben Morris would get another opportunity for DCFC, but two Monterey defenders deflected his shot from the top of the box and went out for another corner kick for Detroit. The ball would find Michael Bryant on the ensuing corner kick, but his header would go just wide of the far post.
As Jordan Adebayo-Smith entered the match for Ben Morris, Le Rouge would come out of the half with one tactical adjustment.
Monterey would come close to an opener in the 56th minute, as a free kick from about 25 yards out would make it past the wall, but it would be directed right at goalkeeper Carlos Herrera.
Detroit City would make two more changes in the 73rd minute as Jay Chapman and Ates Diouf entered for Ryan Williams and Darren Smith.
Jeciel Cedeño would come close to breaking the deadlock in the 82nd minute, as his drive into the box wound up with him taking a shot from close range at the near post, which the Monterey Bay keeper disposed of.
The final change would come in the 83rd minute as Sebastián Guenzatti for some attacking power, with Jeciel Cedeño coming off.
Herrera would be called into action once again in the 86th minute as a counter-attacking opportunity for Monterey would see Luke Ivanovic come close with his right-footed shot, but the shot went right to Herrera.
The two sides would play out three minutes of second-half stoppage time to try and steal the three points, but neither side could get a good look on the net, and both sides settled for the point in a 0-0 draw.
Detroit City heads on the road next week to face Phoenix Rising FC. In two weeks, Le Rouge returns to league play at Keyworth Stadium to take on Eastern Conference rival Rhode Island FC. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. Tickets for all Detroit City matches are available at www.detcityfc.com/tickets.
