Historically, El Paso has had the upper hand over the Switchbacks since their first meeting on May 4, 2019, five years exactly prior to this weekend’s contest. In 15 league matches, El Paso is 7-2-6 against Colorado Springs and interestingly, El Paso remain undefeated at the Switchbacks’ Weidner Field. Los Locos are 2-0-5 on the road at Colorado Springs and perhaps a win to uphold that unbeaten streak could be the key to getting the 2024 season on track.
EL PASO LOCOMOTIVE FC
Of course, being the last team in the league to record a win was not the in the plans for Locomotive heading into 2024. However, that is the position the Locos find themselves in and it’s matter of fighting its way out of the slump to begin turning the season around.
“Right now, we’re in this all together,” Head Coach and Technical Director Brian Clarhaut said in a post-training interview. “Every game right now is vital. Every day is a new opportunity for us. [Colorado Springs] have some momentum, they got the horse of their back. Hopefully their spirits are higher and then we can come in and be the underdog.”
El Paso has managed to keep games close this season and the results its picked up have come down to small moments that unfortunately went against Locomotive’s favor. Despite being able to dictate the play in most of its matches, the end product in the final third just hasn’t swung El Paso’s way. Perhaps that luck can change on the road at Colorado Springs, a place where Locomotive has historically found success.
COLORADO SPRINGS SWITCHBACKS FC
Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC managed to pick up their first win last Saturday, beating Oakland Roots SC 2-0 as several players (most notably Maalique Foster who notched the assists for both goals) finally put it all together for a strong showing on the road.
After drawing 1-1 with Indy Eleven the week prior to snap their five-match losing streak, Colorado Springs look to build off the positive momentum they’ve earned in their last two matches and pick up their first-ever win at home against El Paso.
