TUCSON, Ariz. (Dec. 7, 2020) — FC Tucson announced today that the club has picked up the contract option for forward Shakeem “Shak” Adams, making him the first returning player for the club’s 2021 USL League One season.
Adams is coming off of a stellar 2020 USL League One season, where he placed his attacking prowess on display by notching four goals in 9 starts with a total of 809 minutes played.
“We are delighted to welcome Shak Adams back to FC Tucson for the 2021 season,” said FC Tucson Head Coach, John Galas. “He proved throughout his first professional season that he is an exciting, dynamic and dangerous attacking player in this league. We expect him to have another terrific season for the club.”
In his professional debut season with FC Tucson, Adams featured in 12 matches with 9 starts. The Nashville, TN, native led the club with 4 goals and was tied for the 9th spot in USL League One for goals scored. In Week 6, Adams earned Team of the Week honors after recording one goal, two assists, four chances created overall and winning 3 of 4 duels to help lead Tucson to a 4-1 victory against Orlando City B.
“Shak was a pivotal member of our 2020 season, on and off the field,” said FC Tucson President, Amanda Powers. “We can’t wait to see him continue to develop in Tucson as one of the top players in USL League One and to see him give the fans more goals to celebrate.”
FC Tucson signed forward Shak Adams in February 2020, following his release after participating in the preseason with MLS club Nashville SC. Before being drafted 54th overall of the MLS SuperDraft by Nashville SC, Adams played four seasons at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), scoring 23 goals and adding 16 assists in 71 matches. Adams remains as FGCU’s program all-time assist leader (16) and joint leader in game-winning goals (eight). Whilst with the Division 1 Soccer program at FGCU, Adams played in the USL League Two with Nashville SC U-23 in 2017 and Seattle Sounders FC U-23 in 2019.
