Saturday afternoon the Tulsa Roughnecks played their fourth preseason match against Saint Louis FC at the World Wide Technology Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri. The Roughnecks came away with their first preseason loss from the USL Championship Eastern Conference team.
It was a rough beginning for the Roughnecks and Saint Louis FC after Mallan Roberts was sent off in the 15th minute due to an incident with a Saint Louis FC player that resulted in both receiving a red card. However, a goal by Rodrigo Da Costa early on gave the Roughnecks the lead in the 23rd minute. Soon after Saint Louis FC equalized bringing the score to 1-1 to finish out the first half. Shortly after the second half was underway, Saint Louis FC took the lead and doubling their advantage later on to see the game finish 1-3.
“The game was a good tool to assess where players are at physically. We were able to push some players to 70-90 minutes while already overloaded. Other players will get more time in Tuesday’s match,” said Michael Nsien (Head Coach, Tulsa Roughnecks), “We were able to avoid any major injuries outside of a slight ankle sprain. We look forward to continuing to build on what we have gained so far. Appreciate the fans that made the trip up. We will keep pushing to make sure we are prepared for March 9th and the season.”
The Roughnecks will be back in action for their next preseason match this Tuesday, the 26th in Claremore, Oklahoma where they will play Rogers State University. Entry is free for this preseason game and kicks off at 6:30PM CT.
