Green Bay USL League Two Announces Assistant Coach
Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, Wednesday, February 6, 2019: Ahead of announcing their team name, logo and colors this Saturday at 3:30 at Green Bay Distillery, Green Bay USL League Two are announcing their assistant coach. Former professional soccer player and Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Famer Tony Pierce was named assistant coach of Green Bay’s new USL League Two team. The announcement of the veteran collegiate coach’s appointment was made by Green Bay USL League Two’s General Manager Dannon Anderson.
Pierce is a Green Bay resident whose playing career included an NCAA Championship at the University of Connecticut as well as an eight-year career with the Milwaukee Wave where he was a three time All-Pro goalkeeper. Pierce’s successful playing career earned him an induction to the Milwaukee Wave Hall of Fame in 2010.
“I am very excited to be working with the Green Bay organization to bring quality soccer to the Green Bay area. It is extremely enjoyable to be a part of the development and the success of these young players!” Pierce said.
The former goalie is a southern Illinois native who has been coaching at the collegiate level for over 20 years. Pierce has experience coaching both men’s and women’s teams and has helped improve the soccer program at seven different NCAA institutions. He is currently the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at Wisconsin Lutheran College, a position he has held for nine years. In his role with Green Bay USL League Two, he will support Head Coach Brian Kamler’s efforts in recruiting and training the team.
Green Bay USL League Two Head Coach Brian Kamler sees Pierce as a great fit for the team. “I am thrilled Tony is joining our staff! The young men on our team will benefit from his wealth of knowledge on the game. He is not only going to be a great asset for the players, but he is going to be a great asset for me and the entire organization.” says Kamler.
Pierce was inducted to the Wisconsin Soccer Hall of Fame in 2017. Throughout his coaching career he has helped 22 players earn various post-season awards. He will be able to do the same with Green Bay USL League Two players this summer.
“I was privileged to work with Tony with the Milwaukee Wave and Chicago Power where he proved his value both on the field and in the community. I’ve known Tony for more than 30 years and know that his experience coaching at UW-Green Bay and elsewhere will translate well to coaching the high-level players with this team,” said Big Top Soccer Managing Director Peter Wilt.
The next steps for Pierce are working with Kamler to build the team’s roster.
