Forward Madison is back at Breese Stevens Field this week for its second-ever exhibition match against the UW-Madison men’s soccer team. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT
Last week, the Flamingos traveled to Omaha Nebraska for its fourth regular-season meet-up against top-ranked USL League One team, Union Omaha. Due to a severe rain storm, the match was suspended by the 58th minute and will be replayed at a later date. With this halted match, Forward Madison sits in 10th place with 19 points in USL League One standings.
Tuesday’s match against UW-Madison is Forward Madison’s second exhibition match of the 2021 season. In July, the Flamingos fell 2-0 in their first friendly against Club Atlético Morelia at Breese Stevens Field.
Turning to the competition, the Badgers have yet to start their 2021 fall season. Last spring, Wisconsin held a 2-7-1 record in the Big Ten Conference. This is the first time the Flamingos will face off against Wisconsin since 2019, where they defeated the Badgers 2-1 at their home turf.
Forward Madison has some connected history with the Wisconsin men’s soccer team. Back in 2019 former Badger, Carl Schneider, signed with the Flamingos and was with the team for two seasons before signing with Michigan Stars FC of the National Independent Soccer Association.
At the technical staff level, assistant coach Jim Launder served as head coach for the Badgers from 1982-1996. Under Launder’s leadership the Badgers won their only NCAA championship in 1995. In addition to working with the Flamingos, Launder also coaches for the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association.
Following Tuesday’s exhibition Forward Madison will resume USL League One play on Saturday, August 14 hosting South Georgia Tormenta FC at Breese Stevens Field.
