Final "Practice" Lap
With the green flag in sight, Indy Eleven heads to the University of Evansville for the second straight year, this time to face other USL foe Louisville City FC after taking on another USL club, St. Louis FC, in a 1-1 draw at the same venue last year.
The 2017 roster is almost finalized, and head coach Tim Hankinson sees this weekend's test as another opportunity to continue ramping up his players' minutes as the team's fitness peaks ahead of next week's NASL season opener at San Francisco. With an almost completely fit team at his disposal, Indy will likely line up with a similar XI to what the Deltas will see next week, but with time still to make tweaks, coach Hankinson isn't shy about working out the final few kinks.
"You have to go into a game like this with a set plan," said Hankinson. "We know what we're looking to get out of this game, and like last week, the result is not as important to us as getting guys time in their respective positions is."
Who to Watch, Indy Eleven edition: DF Lovel Palmer
In the 2017 preseason, Lovel Palmer has been nothing short of a rock at the back for Indiana's Team. With three official preseason matches under his belt, Palmer has helped command a defense that has yet to concede a single goal while he has been on the pitch.
However, Louisville City FC comes in as one of the best attacking sides of the 2016 USL crop, and last season's U.S. Open Cup match at Carroll Stadium proved a good fight. Alongside new signing Kwame Watson-Siriboe and regulars Marco Franco and Nemanja Vukovic, the challenge will be for Palmer & co., to keep the ball out of Busch's hands and away from danger against a youthful Lou City as they have in their previous 150+ minutes of scoreless play.
Match-up to Mark: FW Eamon Zayed & FW Justin Braun vs. Lou City DF
Once again, the match-up to mark this week involves forwards Eamon Zayed and Justin Braun, who seek to replicate their incredible return in 2016 with even more in the back of the net this season.
Zayed opened his preseason tally in the 1-1 draw with Swope Park Rangers at Grand Park earlier this month, but as the attacking pair better intertwines with the midfield four behind them, more chances are created – and therefore – more chances are scored. Ben Speas has been an integral part of the Indy preseason squad, and it will fall on that trio to continue driving the Eleven attack forward on Saturday night.
