Want to know more about our latest signings? Throughout the offseason, we'll be asking all of our new Boys in Blue 11 questions to help you get to know them before we kick off the 2021 USL Championship season. Sit back and check out the Q&A below to get to know Butler University alum Jared Timmer.
Favorite snack?
JT: “I have to go with chips and salsa. I just like chips and salsa as an easy, quick go-to snack. It’s probably more of a cheat snack. I probably shouldn’t be eating them too much, but yeah, I like chips and salsa.”
If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
JT: “Oof. Wow, that’s a tough question. I like a lot of movies, but I think ‘The Dark Knight’ is my favorite movie, I would say because of the Joker’s performance is just unbelievable – one of the best villains of all-time.”
Favorite soccer team you support?
JT: “I might get a little bit of heat from some of my college coaches and friends, but I actually support Manchester City. I say that because my freshman roommate in college, Joe Moulden, was from Manchester. His dad played for Manchester City (Paul Moulden, ’84-‘89) back when they were in the Championship, he was the top goal scorer to get them back into Division 1 (‘88-‘89). He kind of got me into it and kind of at a good time because they won two Premier League titles right after that and hopefully another one this year.”
Favorite soccer player of all-time?
JT: “Sticking with Manchester City, I would say Yaya Touré. He was just a big physical presence. I played kind of a defensive-mid, similar to his style back in college and through my youth. He was just such a physical presence in the midfield and dominated through there, and he was very clean on the ball. All of that is what I wanted to become, a very good physical presence, really clean and technical on the ball.”
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
JT: “I would say probably my mom’s dad. I never got to meet my grandpa on my mom’s side. They have an amazing family, but he died before I was born. I’m a big family guy, so being able to meet him, talk to him would be pretty cool. It’s tough, but it would be a cool experience to sit down and have a conversation with him, find out what he liked to do and things like that.”
What’s your favorite pre-game hype song (or playlist)?
JT: “I like old school hip hop, so some old Drake, Lil Wayne, etc. Honestly, I’m pretty easy going with music. I’m good with whoever throws on or grabs AUX, I’m not the one who usually does that. I’m more just in my own head, just getting ready and mentally preparing rather than listening to a specific playlist before a game. Whatever’s on, I’m ready to go.”
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
JT: “Probably to fly. I just want to get to and from places really quickly. It would be sweet, just to be able to be like ‘I’m going to go over here for the day, I’ll just fly over there,’ and just jump up and fly.”
If you could be a guest star on any TV show, what show would you be on?
JT: “My favorite show is probably ‘Game of Thrones’. So, to somehow get onto that that show would be cool. Not sure what character I’d be, I’d probably get killed off, but yeah, ‘Game of Thrones’. I’d hopefully be in House Stark …”
What’s one thing about you that no one else knows?
JT: “A lot of people don’t know that I like to waterski and wakeboard just because I haven’t really done it that much. I did it when I was really young, so maybe close family knows that, but no friends really know. Our family has a cottage up in northern Michigan, and my uncle and aunt have a speedboat up there. We’d go up there a lot in the summers to go tubing, skiing and wakeboarding. Kind of got away from it when high school and college came around, so I’d like to get back into it again after my soccer career.”
Who is your celebrity lookalike?
JT: “A lot of people call me Sid the Sloth from ‘Ice Age’ [laughs]. He’s obviously an animation character, but I dig it, you know? He’s a great character, cool guy.”
What are you most excited about this season?
JT: “To keep building off a good first year. To continue to develop and grow as an individual player, but also to do whatever it takes to win games this season. I had a really good experience with Reno, they were a good group of guys, but I’m excited to get in and learn the team and learn the new guys, and just get to work.”
