Want to know more about our latest signings? Throughout the offseason, we'll be asking all of our new Boys in Blue 11 questions to help you get to know them before we kick off the 2021 USL Championship season. Sit back and check out the Q&A below to get to know Auburn, Ind. native Rece Buckmaster.
Favorite snack?
RB: “My favorite snack has got to be CheeZIt crackers. I’ve been on a kick with them recently and I fell in love with them, so I’m eating those pretty much every day. It’s probably not a good thing for me, but I can’t get enough of them. I usually just eat the original flavor. There are the hot ones, and they’re okay, but I’m an original-type of guy and I like those the most.”
If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
RB: “One movie? It has to be ‘The Dark Knight’. I have it on DVD and I usually watch it once a week. I can’t get enough of it. The way the Joker and Batman are played, it’s just a great action movie in my opinion.”
Favorite soccer team you support?
RB: “Tottenham Hotspur. It’s been tough, but I’ve grown up always being a Tottenham fan. I was a big Gareth Bale fan, I’m glad he’s back. I’ve always grown up liking Tottenham for some reason, I couldn’t tell you why.”
Favorite/most inspirational soccer player of all-time?
RB: “It’s got to be Messi. You can watch that guy every day and not get bored of what he does. As a defender, I just, I couldn’t defend against him. I don’t know how people do. You can’t really defend him, but some people do and it’s just crazy what he does with the ball. His passing, his IQ – I think he’s the greatest player of all time.”
If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
RB: “It’s got to be Kobe Bryant. This year has been tough for everybody and hearing the news of him passing away in that helicopter crash was a tough start to the year that was going to get even worse. Growing up, he was the closest thing to Michael Jordan I could get. I’m a huge [Chicago] Bulls fan, so just watching highlights of MJ and then seeing the similarities between him and Kobe was crazy. So, having dinner with him, picking his mind about how he attacked basketball and how he got better every day would be a dream come true. That can’t happen, but that would be awesome to have dinner with him and pick his mind apart.”
What’s your favorite pre-game hype song (or playlist)?
RB: “So, I just have a workout playlist I play every day when I’m working out or before a game. I don’t know why it’s a workout playlist, but I have it labeled as that. My go-to song would be ‘R.I.C.O’ by Meek Mill and Drake. My nickname is Rico, obviously Phil [Presser] knows me by Rico. I was never called that in New York, I was called that at Indiana University my four years there, so that would be my go-to song. I don’t know why, it just gets me going.”
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
RB: “One superpower…probably just unlimited speed, I guess. That would be a good power. Just to get anywhere you want to pretty quick, in a snap of a finger. I think that would be my superpower.”
If you could be a guest star on any TV show, what show would you be on?
RB: “This might be lame, but I watch ‘The Price is Right’ every morning. I think that it would be awesome to be on that show. I know it’s a game show, but it would be cool to be on ‘The Price is Right’ and see if I could win anything. I get up in the morning and watch that, it’s the first thing I do. My favorite game is probably Plinko. That’s probably a boring game, but the most satisfactory game if you could hit the middle every time. I don’t know if that’s possible, probably not, but it would be cool.”
What’s one thing about you that no one else knows?
RB: “I read a lot. I don’t know how many books a year, I just read a lot – I read every day. I read about finance, the economy and things like that. Those are some of my favorite books, but I’m a big sports reader, too. I have Tiger Woods and MJ books, and those kinds of books. I just love reading books.”
Who is your celebrity lookalike?
RB: “I have to idea to be honest. No one has told me I look like a celebrity. I don’t know if I have one … I might do some research and find someone I kind of look like.”
What are you most excited about this season?
RB: “I’m just excited to get down to Indy and get to work. Being closer to home, more family and friends can come to these games, hopefully everything changes a little bit and more fans can be allowed. I hope my family can come, and that I can see a lot more people come to my games. In New York, my parents came to some of my games with Red Bulls II and the first team, but mainly watched on TV. It’ll be nice that they are a short drive away to come down to the games and watch me play.”
