INDIANAPOLIS – Indy Eleven continued to bolster the defensive side of its 2021 roster with today’s acquisition of defender Aidan Liu via loan from Danish Superligaen side Velje Boldklub. Per club policy, terms surrounding the deal that brings the promising 20-year-old center back to Indiana’s Team will not be released.
Liu joins Indy Eleven after he spent the last two and a half years in Denmark, a stint that began in the youth set-up of HB Køge in August 2018. The Chicago native logged most of his time in Danish football with Vejle BK, which he joined prior to their 2019/20 campaign, and also served a three-month loan stint with FC Sydvest 05 last fall.
“Aidan Liu is a talented young American player who gained valuable experience in a challenging environment overseas these last few years,” said Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie. “I think he’s just scratching the surface of what he can do as a defender, and he’ll provide some quality depth and size that makes him a threat in the air on either side of the field.”
The versatile 6’4” Liu made the change to center back while abroad, this after he served as a target forward during his time with Chicago Sockers FC in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play, where he often teamed up top with ex-Eleven striker Josh Penn.
Liu’s addition puts Indy Eleven at 23 players under contract for the 2021 campaign as the team continues the second week of its preseason camp at Grand Park in Westfield. The roster as it currently stands:
Goalkeepers: Bobby Edwards, Jordan Farr*, Alexander Svetanoff*^
Defenders: Rece Buckmaster, A.J. Cochran, Neveal Hackshaw*, Aidan Liu, Nedeljko Malić, Karl Ouimette*, Matthew Senanou*^, Jared Timmer

Forwards: Manuel Arteaga, Jordan Hamilton, Nick Moon*, Matthew Roou*^, Gordon Wild
