GAME NOTES (PDF DOWNLOADS):
After capping a three-game road swing to start the season last Saturday with a draw in Louisville, Indy Eleven looks to claim its first win of the season in Saturday’s home opener against LA Galaxy II. The match marks the first matchup between the two sides and the first of at least five home games for Indiana’s Team in April, with the homestand continuing against St. Louis CITY II in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday.
STEPPING BACK TO “THE MIKE”: Indy Eleven has compiled a 39W-24L-21D record all time in five seasons of play at IUPUI Michael A. Carroll Stadium – aka “The Mike”, which includes USL Championship and NASL regular season and playoff contests and U.S. Open Cup action.
After three seasons at Lucas Oil Stadium from 2018-20 to start its tenure in the USL Championship, the Eleven returned to its original home for the 2021 season. Last year’s 4W-8L-4D home ledger factored into an overall disappointing season, but a three-game undefeated streak to end the year (1 win, 2 draws) did manage to spark some better feelings for the team’s abode heading into the offseason.
All competitions record at Carroll: 39W-24L-21D
- NASL regular season (2014-17): 26W-18-17
- NASL postseason (2016): 1W-0L-0D
- U.S. Open Cup (2014-15): 2W-1L-0D
- USLC regular season (2021): 4W-8L-4D
- USLC postseason (2019): 2W-1L-0D
Indy Eleven posted the second-longest home undefeated streak in USL Championship history during its Lucas Oil Stadium tenure, going 28 games (21 wins, 7 draws) without defeat from July 2018-July 2020. It also collected a lengthy undefeated streak at The Mike, going 21 matches without a loss from Oct. 2015-May 2017

LAST TIME OUT
Louisville City FC 1 : 1 Indy Eleven
Sat., March 26 | Recap | Stats | Highlights
The Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest rivalry again brought some of the best out of Indy Eleven, which picked up its first point of the 2022 USL Championship season courtesy of a draw 1-1 at the Eastern Conference leader. The draw saw Indiana’s Team go three straight games undefeated at Lynn Family Stadium dating back to last May.
Louisville came into the contest without conceding a goal while Indy entered the game without a tally on the year, but things changed for both sides in the 22nd minute. Striker Stefano Pinho made Nicky Law’s continued creative work pay off, and the Brazilian’s nodded finish allowed him to celebrate his Indy account opener in front a sizeable contingent of Brickyard Battalion supporters.
The field tilted the home side’s way in the second half, and Sean Totsch get on the end of a recycled set piece 10 yards from goal to even the score in the 53rd minute. A skirmish between the two rival clubs just inside the final 10 minutes set up a tense finish, which only got more heated after a pivotal goal line clearance by Eleven forward Rodney Michael in the 83rd minute.
LA Galaxy II 1 : 0 Rio Grande Valley FC Toros
Thu., March 24 | Recap | Stats | Highlights
LA Galaxy II picked up their first win of the season last Thursday, defeating Rio Grande Valley FC Toros at home. LA’s game-winning-goal was scored by midfielder Taylor Davila in the 45th minute, his first of the season just part of a USL Championship Team of the Week effort. LA goalkeeper Eric Lopez saved both shots he faced and recorded a shutout in his first appearance of the season.
#INDvLA SERIES HISTORY
All official competitions: First meeting
Despite both teams’ inaugural seasons coming in 2014, this matchup marks the first – and last – time the two clubs will face one another. LA Galaxy II was founded in 2014 and began play in the USL Championship (then called the USL Pro) that same year. Indy Eleven was founded in 2013 but didn’t join the USL Championship until the 2018 season. With “Los Dos” jumping to MLS Next Pro in 2023, this will be their only meeting – unless they square off in November’s USL Championship Final, that is.
FAMILIAR FACES: CITY OF ANGELS EDITION
Eleven fans will recognize one recent Boy in Blue suiting up for LA Galaxy II on Saturday, as defender Liam Doyle will make his return to Carroll Stadium. Doyle appeared in three games for the Boys in Blue during the 2021 season after being loaned from USL Championship side San Antonio FC late in the season on September 13.When it comes to players on Indy’s roster, midfielder Bryam Rebellón is a familiar face to the Galaxy organization. The Colombian footballer played for LA Galaxy II during the 2016 season, appearing in 24 contests and scoring twice.
ELEVEN PLAYER TO WATCH: MF JONAS FJELDBERG
In his second start of the season last Saturday, the Norwegian midfielder made his impact evident on both sides the pitch. His energy created chances, won fouls, and put pressure on the Louisville goal, all helping Indy secure its first point of the season. Before being replaced by Karl Ouimette in the 90th minute, Fjeldberg won a free kick in the 30th minute, booted a shot to the top right corner that was miraculously saved in the 34th minute, and set up an Aris Briggs shot in the 42nd minute.
While his spot at the top of Head Coach Mark Lowry’s midfield diamond would make his impact more seen on the attacking side of the ball, Fjeldberg was all over the field, and his effort in the Eleven’s press and bite in winning balls back was instrumental in bringing about an attitude change applauded by Lowry after the match. With thousands of Indy faithful in the stands on Saturday night, you should only look for that level of energy and effort to increase, so look for Fjeldberg to keep buzzing about and stamping his influence on the proceedings.
