Lexington, KY – Lexington Sporting Club is proud to announce the signing of Lucas Stauffer, a defender and Owensboro native, to its inaugural USL Championship Men’s Team, pending league and federation approval. Returning to Kentucky, Stauffer brings a wealth of experience from a career that spans domestic and international leagues, as well as an impressive collegiate resume.
“Lucas is an attacking full back that provides excellent service,” said Head Coach Terry Boss. “He has a wealth of experience, and we look forward to watching him play in his Old Kentucky Home.”
Stauffer made his mark at Creighton University, where he was a standout player for the Bluejays. He earned All-Big East First Team honors in both 2016 and 2017, solidifying himself as one of the top defenders in collegiate soccer. His performance helped Creighton maintain a reputation as one of the premier collegiate soccer programs in the country.
Following his collegiate success, Stauffer’s professional career took him to the United States and Germany. He played for El Paso Locomotive (2024), Las Vegas Lights FC (2023), and New York Red Bulls II (2018) in the USL Championship, as well as FC Carl Zeiss Jena (2020-22) and FSV Wacker 90 Nordhausen (2019-20) abroad.
“Being from Kentucky and a product of Kentucky soccer is something that I take immense pride in,” said Stauffer. “I love this state, and being able to join Lexington SC in their inaugural season of USL Championship soccer is a dream come true.”
Stauffer’s return to Kentucky is more than a signing, it’s a homecoming. His presence reflects Lexington Sporting Club’s vision of fostering a deeper connection between the team and its community, showcasing the strength of Kentucky soccer on a national stage.
