News that a member of the Sporting KC II organization tested positive for COVID-19, forcing postponement of Louisville City FC’s Wednesday game, has thrown the boys in purple “off kilter at the moment.”
That’s what coach and sporting director John Hackworth said in his weekly conversation with the WDRB sports team given LouCity will now re-gear up for an 8 p.m. Saturday home game against Loudoun United FC before hosting SKC II next week on Aug. 19.
“That is what 2020 has ended up being,” Hackworth said. “The new normal is that we have a lot of changes on a daily basis, and we have to adapt to those.”
LouCity, through repeated rounds of testing, hasn’t received a positive result of its own dating back to before the USL Championship restarted play in July. Hackworth credited players and staff for remaining locked down, staying in “as much of a bubble as possible.”
As for SKC II’s situation, “Because of the incubation period of this virus, it’s unclear whether other people have been affected within that organization,” Hackworth added. “So out of an abundance of caution, we made the decision to put it off a week. That lets Sporting go through the process, follow all the protocols that the league and local health officials have put in place.”
