On short rest and on the road, head coach Danny Cruz made three changes to his lineup with Kyle Adams, Maarten Pouwels and Ray Serrano all set to start at 7 p.m. Wednesday when Louisville City FC kicks off at Miami FC.
The midweek matchup includes playoff implications: With a win, the boys in purple would clinch their spot in the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs, putting them a step closer to a top-four finish and the right to host their postseason opener.
Up top at Riccardo Silva Stadium, it’s a relatively fresh front three led by Pouwels – in for Saturday’s goal scorer Wilson Harris – at center forward. Serrano slots in for Brian Ownby on the right wing, while Jorge Gonzalez remains on the left.
Cruz’s midfield pairing remains untouched as team captain Paolo DelPiccolo and LouCity Academy grad Elijah Wynder maintain their starting roles.
Like in recent games, Cruz has given himself options on the defense. There’s an ability to play a back three or four with both Wes Charpie and Manny Perez able to play out wide. Carlos Moguel Jr. remains in the mix at holding midfield or center back as Adams and Sean Totsch round out the back line.
In goal, Oliver Semmle remains between the posts, looking for a second consecutive clean sheet off Saturday’s 1-0 victory over San Diego Loyal SC. He’s one shutout from matching the club’s single-season record of 13.
Wednesday’s game will air on WBKI/The CW and ESPN Louisville’s 680/105.7. USL Championship games also stream via ESPN+.
