The Red-and-White return to Segra Field to face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. The Eastern Conference foes face off for the second time this season – the first of which saw the Riverhounds get the better of United in a 2-0 win at Highmark Stadium.
With a massive win on the road, Loudoun United keep their playoff hopes alive as the bottom three teams – Charleston Battery, Atlanta United 2 and New York Red Bulls II – have already been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
Loudoun United News
Loudoun United FC (LUFC) come off an upset win at AutoZone Park against the second-place team in the Eastern Conference, Memphis 901 FC.
With two wins in their last three matches, Loudoun United saw little change in the starting XI from their win against Atlanta United 2. With an average age of 20 years old, Loudoun played a strong defense match against a dangerous Memphis attack.
With the help of the backline consisting of Hayden Sargis, Jalen Robinson, Nicky Downs and Gaoussou Samaké, Luis Zamudio claimed his sixth clean sheet of the season; recording nine saves on the night.
Skage Simonsen recorded his fourth assist of the season, which proved to be one of his best. With individual brilliance and some Norwegian flair, Simonsen escaped high pressure to find Jacob Greene in back-space. The Homegrown made no mistake in slotting his shot between the goalkeeper’s legs, for his second goal of the season.
D.C. United recently announced the signing of two Homegrown players, winger Kristian Fletcher and defender Matai Akinmboni, both of whom traveled with the first team on Wednesday in United’s 2-1 win over New York City FC. Fletcher made his D.C. United and MLS debut as an 88th-minute substitute.
Hear from Head Coach Ryan Martin
“Incredibly proud of the guys in their gutsy and brave performance against Memphis. Now the conversation quickly changes to backing up Wednesday’s win with another quality performance against a talented and physical Pittsburgh team. We couldn’t be happier to be back at home to go after an important three points.”
