
D.C. United have promoted Loudoun United FC defender Sami Guediri to first team contract for the remainder of the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) season with separate option years in 2023 and 2024.
Guediri recorded two goals and 31 key passes in 13 matches (13 starts) for Loudoun United in the 2022 USL Championship regular season.
Sami Guediri signed with the Red-and-White on Jan. 28 ahead of the 2022 United Soccer League (USL) season. Guediri first joined D.C. United in the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against New York Red Bulls on May 11. Following the match, Guediri was acquired on loans for four games across all competitions for the Black-and-Red.
“Sami is another testament to the success of the Pathway 2 Pro Program from Loudoun United to the D.C. United First Team,” Stewart Mairs, Loudoun United General Manager, said.
The midfielder adds to the long list of Loudoun United players to sign a first team contract with D.C. United. Notable players that have appeared with Loudoun United and have signed with D.C. United include Kevin Paredes, Ted Ku-DiPietro, Moses Nyeman, Griffin Yow, Jacob Greene, Drew Skundrich and Jeremy Garay.
The Florida-native started his professional career overseas with German club BW Friesdorf, where he played from 2016-17. He played for German team VfL Alfter in 2017 before returning to the States in 2018 to play for former USL League Two club Sima Águilas in Montverde.
Guediri spent the 2019 season with USL League One club Greenville Triumph, making 17 appearances before signing with Fort Lauderdale CF the following year. In the 2020 season, Guediri played all 16 matches (14 starts) and recorded two assists for Inter Miami’s USL League One affiliate. In April, the defender joined Inter Miami CF for the 2021 MLS season where he made 10 appearances (two starts) and recorded one assist.
