Loudoun United FC and Loudoun Education Foundation have combined efforts to host a snack drive on Saturday, August 19 at Loudoun United’s match against Sacramento Republic FC. All participants who donate items will receive a Buy One, Get One ticket voucher for one of Loudoun United’s remaining home matches in 2023.
Loudoun Education Foundation launched in-school pantries in January 2022. Since then, they have established pantries in 11 schools, providing different food options, household items, and hygiene products for students in need. The pantries were visited over 200 times a week on average throughout all participating schools, distributing more than 5,200 hygiene items to 3,700 students since they launched in 2022.
“We look forward to launching our inaugural snack drive with Loudoun Education Foundation,” said Doug Raftery, Loudoun United FC Executive Business Officer. “Taking care of those in our own backyard as we wrap up summer is important so that families can be as comfortable as possible when sending their children back to school.”
The list of accepted donation items includes individually wrapped items such as: granola bars, trail mix, applesauce, crackers, chips, fruit cups, ramen, easy mac and similar items. The in-school pantries are special in that families can come in and select the items they need, which results in less waste and increased sustainability.
Loudoun Education Foundation will be on site to collect donated items inside the gates at Segra Field starting when gates open (6:15 p.m.) and leading up to the 7:15 p.m. kickoff. The Buy One, Get One ticket voucher will be redeemable for one of Loudoun United’s remaining 2023 home matches. Vouchers are based on availability and blackout dates may apply.
