Derby on March 13 kicks off festival of fútbol in South Florida
MIAMI (January 6, 2019) – The Miami FC is set to host its in-state rivals, Tampa Bay Rowdies, in the USL Championship Eastern Conference home opener at Riccardo Silva Stadium on Friday, March 13.
Miami FC begins a new era in the USL Championship with a road match against Saint Louis FC at the West Community Stadium in Fenton on Saturday, March 7. Saint Louis finished 11th in the 2019 USL Championship and recently announced the appointment of Steve Trittschuh as the club’s new head coach.
The Orange and Blue then hosts a repeat of their first ever match back in April 2016 when in-state rivals Tampa Bay Rowdies visits Riccardo Silva Stadium.
This season’s home opener sees the introduction of #FutbolFridays and marks the start of a festival of soccer in Florida with Inter Miami CF and Orlando City SC in action the following day.
Miami FC’s new Head Coach Nelson Vargas will be hoping to get off to a winning start as Miami FC’s quest for further silverware gets underway. He knows he will face a stern test from Neill Collins’ side. In 2019, the Rowdies ultimately finished fifth in the USL Championship Eastern Conference and were eliminated from the USL Championship playoffs with a 2-1 loss on the road to eventual Eastern Conference champions Louisville City FC.
Miami FC are unbeaten in their three previous match ups with Tampa Bay Rowdies, recording two draws and one win, a 2-0 victory in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup.
Ticket details for the home opener and 2020 season tickets will be published soon, keep an eye on Miami FC social channels.
