MIAMI (Wednesday, March 18) – Just like almost everyone else, Miami FC players have had to find ways to adapt to the ongoing changes the COVID-19 outbreak has been producing. Since the suspension of the USL Championship last Thursday, Miami FC players were forced to leave what they call “home” and begin training in isolation for the time being.
“First of all during this strange time, I want to wish everybody well,” said Miami FC Captain Lance Rozeboom. “As a club, we have been taking this situation very seriously and have been listening to all the recommendations given by City, State and Federal Government Officials.”
Miami FC Assistant Coach Anthony Hazelwood provided all players with at-home routines to keep the squad active while the USL Training Moratorium has been in place.
“We are dealing with something that is unprecedented in our lives,” said goalkeeper Mark Pais. “Everyone has been sent at-home programs to stay in shape, but it’s not been an easy task. Along with our coaching staff, we need to keep thinking of creative ways to keep ourselves going, especially given the circumstances.”
Despite staying active, players have found it to be tough being away from their teammates, which they consider their family.
“It’s very tough to not train as a team,” said defender Marco Franco. “With our restrictions due to the Corona Virus, we are stuck training in isolations and away from our teammates. Hopefully this clears up faster than we expect and we are able to resume training because we do miss sharing the field as a team. For now, we have to be safe and continue following the recommendations that are sent our way.”
“As athletes we always want to be at our peak regarding performance, but being at home and far from what we consider our “home” makes that difficult,” said forward Miguel Gonzalez. “I try to stay positive about this situation as health is always the number one priority. I’ve been doing our at-home programs, while also trying to go for a run and work on my cardio as well. We’ve all been talking amongst ourselves about how we can’t wait to be back, but right now the important thing is we do whatever we need to do to make this situation pass.”
