MONTCLAIR, New Jersey (May 14, 2021) — The Miami FC defeated New York Red Bulls II 1-0 at MSU Soccer Park on the campus of Montclair State University on Friday night. Jamaican midfielder “Speedy” Williams scored the lone goal of the match with a rocket in the 15th minute.
The visiting side dominated in the first 45 minutes, creating several chances from the get-go. Forward Pierre Da Silva had a chance just two minutes into the match, but his shot sailed over the bar.
This would just be Miami setting the stage, with the first goal coming just ten minutes later. After an initial shot was blocked inside the box, the ball trickled to an oncoming Williams. As he approached the edge of the 18, the Jamaican fired his shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net. This was Williams’ first goal since joining the club ahead of the 2021 USL Championship season.
Miami FC would have a trio of chances in the final ten minutes of the first half. Forwards Lamar Walker and Billy Forbes both saw their shots denied by goalkeeper Anthony Marcucci, while Williams’ chance went wide.
Forbes would have a second chance to double the lead in the 65th minute, but Marcucci made another important save to keep the home side in the match.
